The advantages of organic fertilizers will be evident in your robust plants
Disease and insect resistant plants are only two of the advantages of organic fertilizers.
Generally the term “organic fertilizer” is used to refer to fertilizer that has gone through minimal processing, where nutrients are still found in their natural forms. This includes manure and compost, which you can prepare yourself, along with items which can be purchased.
Chemical fertilizers generally refer to fertilizers that are synthetic or artificial, and generally are manufactured from petroleum products (yes, fertilizer that is made from crude oil).
In the last 60 to 70 years, a phenomenon has happened in farming in the USA. Farmers started using Chemical Fertilizer instead of Organic Fertilizer. From that point we have seen a gradual worsening of soils, resulting in increased insect, disease and weed problems.
ADVANTAGES OF ORGANIC FERTILIZERS - listing
FEWER INSECT PROBLEMS
Why do sapping insects attack a plant? In a word, “They are invited”. Just as predators prey on weak and sickly animals, God has created sapping insects to remove malnourished and inferior plants from the system. Since organic fertilizers contain a much wider array of nutrients, they help to balance plant nutrition.
One fairly easy way to eliminate most sapping insect problems is to apply a full spectrum of micronutrients in a foliar application. Concentrated sea minerals work especially well for this, since micronutrients from the sea are nicely balanced, without too much of any one mineral. In many instances, just applying the sea minerals alone may eliminate many sapping insect problems.
NO TOXIC RESIDUES
One of the greatest problems of chemical fertilizers are the harmful residues they leave in the soil. Perhaps the worst of these is salt, which many chemical fertilizers use as a carrier. Salt is a sterilizer, and tends to kill the beneficial microbes in the soil. In the Midwest United States, this has become such a problem that some fields will barely grow a crop. Some organic fertilizers, such as manure, are high in salt as well. But most are not. This issue is perhaps tops in the advantages of organic fertilizers.
MORE NUTRITIOUS FOODS
Organic fertilizers grow more nutritious food. Both plants and people need a host of micro-nutrients. Chemical fertilizers supply only a handful of nutrients, while organic fertilizers provide many more.
It has been said that blood plasma and plant sap have almost the identical proportion of minerals as are found in the ocean. In fact, one of the best sources for micro-nutrients is ocean water, where all 76 naturally occurring minerals are available in perfect balance. Concentrated Ocean Water gives plants the trace minerals that they need. When you give plants and soil the nutrients they need, it means health for your plants, and exceptional nutrition for you.
HIGHER BRIX, BETTER FLAVOR
A Brix reading, which can be measured with a Refractometer, measures the solids in plant juices. This is comprised of both sugars and trace minerals. Some people actually carry a Refractometer with them to the grocery store, since higher brix means more flavor. This is especially true when plant juices are full of trace minerals. One of the most common testimonials we hear is from people who just can’t believe how good their fruits and vegetables taste when grown with perhaps the best source of trace minerals available, concentrated sea minerals.
HEALTHIER PLANTS
There are so many diseases plaguing our crops these days. One of the main reasons for this is that we have depended on chemical fertilizers, starving the soil of nutrients that occur naturally in most organic fertilizers. When insect and disease problems show up, we use poisons to try and kill them. All these chemicals are toxins that kill beneficial soil microbes and place a great burden on the soil. Fortunately, there are organic humic acid fertilizers which help break down these toxins. Organic fertilizers really do result in healthier plants.
DIMINISHING WEED PROBLEMS
In the book, “Weeds and Why They Grow”, Jay L. McCaman makes the case that weeds are there to help correct problems in the soil. Most weeds show up when there are toxins such as salt and pesticides that need removed, or certain nutrient levels are too high, causing an imbalance in the soil, or there is a lack of organic matter in the soil. As mentioned above, chemical farming kills beneficial microbes. Restoring the balance of nutrients in the soil, removing toxins, and encouraging the growth of beneficial bacteria are hidden advantages of organic fertilizers.
Crops thrive in this environment; weeds do not!
Other Advantages of Organic Fertilizers are, they:
- Release nutrients more slowly, spoon feeding the plant
- Help the soil to come alive with beneficial bacteria and fungi
- Are good for the environment, with fewer problems of leaching into water supplies
- Are safe to use. No safety equipment required for their application
- Are non-toxic to people and pets
If you choose to use only chemical fertilizers, you are asking for trouble. Why not add in some organic fertilizers as well. Better yet, forget the chemical fertilizers, and educate yourself in the use of organic fertilizers. Our research has shown that when used properly, they will result in less insect damage, fewer diseases, and less weed problems, while giving you a bountiful harvest of highly nutritious foods that have a great shelf life.
Other intangible advantages of organic fertilizers include your peace of mind knowing that you are providing a clean, healthy environment and nutrient dense food for you family.
